Creamery Tours

Overview

Private creamery tours are one hour long and give you a unique opportunity to visit with our herd of LaMancha goats, see the inside our milking parlor, peek into our creamery and learn all about how we make our cheeses.

  • Private Creamery Tours are $25/person
  • Every tour ends with a tasting of our seasonal cow and goat milk cheeses! Due to staffing limitations on our working farm, we have a $100 minimum for Private Creamery Tours. You may certainly book a tour for less than 4 people, but the set minimum price is $100, so you'll select 4 people when booking your tour slot.
  • Group Creamery Tours are offered on select days and have a 2-person minimum at $20/person.
  • Children under the age of 5 are FREE and do not require a ticket! We look forward to seeing you on the farm!

Creamery Tours FAQ

Do you accept walk-ins or tours without an appointment?

Since we are a working farm with a very limited staff, we are not open to the public without a reservation. All tours are booked here on our website. For last-minute inquiries, please email us at stepladdercreamery@gmail.com. We'll do our best to accommodate all tour requests!

How do I get to Stepladder Creamery?

Once you book your tour, you will receive an automated email with driving directions to our locked gate. All visits are by reservation, as we do our best to respect the privacy of our neighbors and staff on the property.

May I bring my pet?

For the safety of your animals and ours, we do not allow outside pets on the property. Our herd dogs are very kind to humans, but they are protective (and potentially dangerous) around other animals.

What should I wear?

You should prepare for appropriate weather, but always wear close-toed shoes. Our goats are friendly and may get close to you and rub up on your clothing. If you are allergic to poison oak, please be mindful of petting the animals. The goats do graze the property and may have had contact with poison oak. You'll want to wear sunscreen and a hat if it's a hot day, since we will spend most of the tour outside!

Can I buy cheese after the tour?

Yes! After the tour, you'll have the opportunity to purchase cheese, Stepladder Ranch & Creamery swag and other goodies.

Can I buy your cheese without attending a farm tour?

Yes! Visit our local purveyors in Cambria, San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, and beyond! Check out our Where to Buy page for all locations. For wholesale inquiries, please email us at stepladdercreamery@gmail.com

Do you offer Farm Stays?

Yes! We'd love for you to book your next vacation with us! The Big House at Stepladder Ranch offers guests a coastal escape to our beautiful 740-acre ranch in Cambria. This spacious home offers plenty of room for a large family getaway, reunion or group retreat with limitless activities! Find us on VRBO and Airbnb.

I have more than 20 people, can I book a large group tour?

Yes, we are happy to accommodate large groups, but need to make special arrangements on our end to ensure we have enough staff on hand and transportation is organized in advance. Please email us at stepladdercreamery@gmail.com for large group pricing and availability. Groups over 12 people will get a discounted rate.

Can we have a picnic on the farm after our tour?

To preserve the intimate nature of our farm and residence, we do not offer a public picnic area. You will need to leave the farm promptly after your tour due to our quickly rotating tour schedule and farm responsibilities. We encourage you to visit the amazing beaches on HWY 1 with grills and picnic tables- located only 15 minutes away!

How are your tours for people with limited mobility?

Our farm is mostly on uneven terrain, so it can be a bit challenging to accommodate guests with limited mobility, though we will do our best to create a special experience for all guests on our farm. We can set up a special cheese tasting outside our farm shop and bring guests with limited mobility near the goat pen to get a closer view. Please get in touch for more details on navigating the tour with any special needs or accommodations.
