Creamery Tours

Our Group Creamery Tours are one hour long and give you the unique opportunity to meet our herd of LaMancha goats, see the inside our milking parlor and learn all about how we make our cheeses. These tours are $20/person. Children under the age of 5 are FREE and do not require a ticket. Please be considerate of the group dynamic and supervise your children at all times. We are located on a private residence, so all visits are by reservation only. We are closed for tours on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Ranch & Creamery Tours are $35/person and offer all the same components of the Group Creamery Tour with an extended look into our orchards with more of a detailed history of the property and microclimate that make Stepladder so special.

Please be advised, we do not allow dogs on the property under any circumstance.

Creamery Tours FAQ

Do you accept walk-ins or tours without an appointment?

Since we are a working farm with a very limited staff, we are not open to the public without a reservation. All tours are booked here on our website. For last-minute inquiries, please email us at info@stepladdercreamery.com.

How do I get to Stepladder Ranch & Creamery?

Once you book your tour, you will receive an automated email with driving directions to our locked gate. All visits are by reservation, as we do our best to respect the privacy of our neighbors and staff on the property.

May I bring my pet?

For the safety of your animals and ours, we DO NOT allow dogs on the property. Our herd dogs are very kind to humans, but they are protective (and potentially dangerous) around other animals. Our livestock dogs will track vehicles if there is a dog inside, so you are unable to leave animals in the car during your tour. Thanks for your understanding.

What should I wear?

You should dress for the weather but always wear closed-toed shoes. Our goats are friendly and may get close to you and rub up on your clothing. If you are allergic to poison oak, please be mindful of petting the animals. The goats do graze the property and may have had contact with poison oak. You'll want to wear sunscreen and a hat if it's a hot day since we will spend most of the tour outside! Tours are rain or shine, so bring boots and an umbrella if the forecast shows rain.

Can I buy cheese after the tour?

Yes! After the tour, you'll have the opportunity to purchase cheese, Stepladder Ranch & Creamery swag and other goodies. Join the Cheese Club and get a FREE tour for up to 12 people and 20% off anything in our Tasting Room for a year.

Can I buy your cheese without attending a farm tour?

Yes! Visit our local purveyors in Cambria, San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, and beyond! Check out our Where to Buy page for all locations. For wholesale inquiries, please email us at orders@stepladdercreamery.com. You can also find us at the Cambria farmers' market on Friday afternoons.

Do you offer Farm Stays?

Yes! We'd love for you to book your next vacation with us! The Big House at Stepladder Ranch offers guests a coastal escape just outside of Cambria. This spacious home offers plenty of room for a large family getaway, reunion or group retreat with limitless activities. Find us on VRBO or Airbnb!

I have more than 20 people, can I book a large group tour?

Yes, we are happy to accommodate large groups, but we need to make special arrangements on our end to ensure we have enough staff on hand and transportation is organized in advance. Please email us at info@stepladdercreamery.com for large group pricing and availability. Tours are $20/person and children under age 5 are free.

Can we have a picnic on the farm after our tour?

To preserve the intimate nature of our farm and residence, we do not offer a public picnic area. You will need to leave the farm promptly after your tour due to our quickly rotating tour schedule and farm responsibilities. We encourage you to visit the amazing beaches on HWY 1 with grills and picnic tables- located only 15 minutes away! For any special requests, please email us directly.

How are your tours for people with limited mobility?

Our farm is mostly on uneven terrain, so it can be a bit challenging to accommodate guests with limited mobility, though we will do our best to create a special experience for all guests on our farm. We can set up a special cheese tasting outside our farm shop and bring guests with limited mobility near the goat pen to get a closer view. Please get in touch for more details on navigating the tour with any special needs or accommodations.
